We strive to ensure our privacy practices are compliant with applicable data protection and privacy laws, including the California Consumer Privacy Act (“CCPA”) and other state consumer privacy laws.
“Personal information” is information that identifies, relates to, describes, is capable of being associated with, or could reasonably be linked with a particular consumer or household. Personal information includes information such as real names, postal addresses, email addresses, and social security numbers.
Under CCPA’s broad definition, “personal information” may also include unique identifiers, IP addresses, biometric information, internet or other network activity (such as browsing history, search history, etc.), geolocation data, audio/visual data, and even inferences which may be drawn from any of the above to create a profile about a consumer.
Please note that some of the personal we collect may constitute “sensitive personal information” under applicable laws. We will never use your sensitive personal data except for research purposes, or otherwise to verify your identity or prevent fraud. For more information on how to opt out of the processing of your sensitive personal data, please click here.
Your Privacy Choices
Depending on your location, you may have certain special rights under the law of your home jurisdiction with respect to your personal information.
To access, correct, or request deletion of your personal information, or to request a copy of your personal information or opt out of the processing of your personal information, please contact us as provided in the “Contact Us” section below. Depending on your location, you may also have the right to appeal any decision we make regarding your personal data by contacting us as provided below.
The rights of individuals located in California are further described in the “Information for California Residents” section below.
Your Participation in Research
Participating in our market research studies is voluntary. We respect each respondent’s right to withdraw or to refuse to cooperate at any stage of the study and will not use any procedure or technique to coerce or imply that cooperation is obligatory.
Please note that the financial incentives ordinarily given to encourage respondents to participate may be provided by Research Narrative or its agents, clients, or partners. Such financial incentives may be rewarded only if the applicable survey, research project or study is fully and properly completed by the respondent, in the sole discretion of Research Narrative.
Research Narrative will inform participants at the outset if any interview or discussion is being audio or video recorded, in which case we will obtain all necessary written consents. In the unlikely event these recordings will be used for marketing or promotional purposes, we will obtain separate written consents and rights of publicity assignments.
Information Collection and Usage
Information we collect in connection with our research activities includes real names, email addresses, and phone numbers, which we collect directly from research respondents for the purpose of survey recruitment and follow-up (e.g., honoraria fulfillment).
We also collect certain demographic information, including without limitation age, sex, gender identity, religious identity, sexual orientation, race/ethnicity, marital status, education, and professional credentials for the purpose of tailoring survey opportunities for our respondents and delivering research insights to our clients.
As part of the survey process we also collect information about purchasing history or preferences, political opinions, party affiliation, and other information related to consumer history or preferences.
We may also collect audio or video of research respondents with their explicit consent. We will only use such audiovisual information for research purposes.
In the majority of the foregoing instances respondents will know exactly what information we are collecting because they provide it to us directly. In circumstances where demographic information is sourced from a third-party partner (e.g., a respondent’s home panel) we do not receive such information unless you have given your consent to that third party to share the information with us.
We may also receive a respondent ID or other unique identifier from our clients or panel partners for research purposes.
We may collect certain location information directly from you or from our clients where you’ve consented to sharing it with us, including your mailing address and ZIP code. We also collect your IP address automatically when you take one of our surveys online. All such location information is only used for research purposes or for distributing honoraria.
Sharing of Personal Information
We share your personal information with our clients, subject to appropriate confidentiality restrictions, for the purpose of delivery of research results. We may also share your personal information with our vendors and service providers as necessary, subject to confidentiality agreements, including appropriate use restrictions, with such vendors and service providers.
Research Narrative will not disclose personal information other than for the purposes listed above, without the permission of the research participant. The following are exceptions:
If Research Narrative shares your personal information or allows it to be collected or maintained by anyone other than Research Narrative, the use of your personal information will be governed by appropriate confidentiality and security agreements.
